Possible 351 Interceptor Prototype?

Vectis Auctions 3rd February 2026

On sale at Vectis Auctions in the UK is an interesting large scale model of the Dinky 351 Interceptor

The Listing states: Gerry Anderson’s “UFO” Shado Interceptor large Wooden Made Model (believed to be from the Dinky Toys Factory cannot confirm) As A Large Pre-Production Working Model – Finished in green with blue window, orange legs, Complete with detachable White and orange missile See-Photo (Approx 65cm in length with missile) A Very Impressive model, accompanied with Dinky Toys Model in Picture in frame (2)

There is no declared provenance to the model so as usual ‘caveat emptor’ applies. But it would be a very nice addition to a collection if the price is right.

Hammer Price: £220

  1. Dear,

Your description of the model above states that it is a wooden mock-up. The auction description by Vectis is absolutely clear, it is a 3d printed mock-up.
This could not have been made for Meccano Ltd., if it had it would have been made in 1970 or early 71 and at this time the 3d printers were still at least forty years away.

    Here is a copy/paste of Vectis’s listing :

“Gerry Anderson’s “UFO” Shado Interceptor 3D Printed made model (cannot confirm) – Finished in green with blue window, orange legs, Complete with detachable White and orange missile See-Photo (Approx 65cm in length with missile) A Very Impressive model, accompanied with Dinky Toys Model in Picture in frame (2)”

    All the best.

    1. Hi Jacques, many thanks for your comment. The auction description was updated after my post was written to remove the ‘prototype’ suggestion and add the 3D mention. I did not see the later version and only commented on the original description which had been updated. You are absolutely correct about a 3D printed model was not possible in the 70s. Interestingly, I was communicating with Vic Mumby (Dinky Toys designer in that period) about another model and he confirmed that wooden mockups like this were not produced . Kind regards Kevin
